Guide to the Historical Sites Files

The Office of History and Archaeology. Historic Sites Files, 1962-1989. Series 884.

Historic Sites Files document research conducted to nominate prehistoric or historic geographic sites or structures to the National Register of Historic Places. Nominations are reviewed by the State Historic Preservation Office and the Alaska Historical Commission. If accepted, the project is forwarded to the Keeper of the National Register for final review.

Information may include applications, reports, surveys, photographs, maps, charts, nominations. Project research varies from 2-3 pages to over 100. The records are divided into four categories:

  • 3330-3: Properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places;
  • 3330-5: Properties designated National Historic Landmarks (also listed in the National Register of Historic Places); Series 884 Historic Sites Files;
  • 3330-6: Properties eligible but not listed in the National Register of Historic Places because of owner objection or lack of documentation by the managing federal agency, 3330-6;
  • 3330-6N: Properties ineligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, 3330-6N.
